Specialist electricity support for logistics and warehousing

A national logistics operator we work with runs eighteen warehouses across the UK. Each one was contracted independently when the site opened. Different suppliers, different end dates, different contract types. The combined annual electricity spend ran to eight figures and the finance team had no consolidated view.

Logistics electricity is shaped by big sheds. Warehouse heating in winter is the dominant load on most sites. Gas-fired air heaters or radiant heating, but where the warehouse is electric-heated the bill spikes hard from October to March. Lighting runs at low base load through the day. EV charging is the new variable as fleets electrify.

This page covers how we help UK logistics and warehouse operators review their electricity contracts. The mechanics of switching are in our business electricity switching guide. Our business electricity service covers the open UK market across every commercial sector.

How we help logistics operators

We pull every warehouse’s electricity bill, MPAN and contract terms into one view. For larger sheds we check half-hourly data, agreed capacity, reactive power and any time-of-use tariff. For multi-site operators we coordinate a portfolio switch with one renewal date.

Why logistics electricity is different

FeatureStandard SMELogistics site
Site sizeOne floor, modest area10,000–500,000+ sq ft
Demand patternWorking hoursOften 24/7 for fulfilment; daytime for distribution
Half-hourlyRareCommon above 100kW max demand
Peak heating loadModestWinter heating dominates if electric-heated
EV chargingRareRapidly growing as fleets electrify
Multi-siteLess commonCommon. Regional and national portfolios

EV charging and capacity headroom

Fleet electrification is changing the load profile of logistics sites quickly. Adding charging infrastructure for vans and HGVs adds significant new demand. The existing agreed import capacity at the site may not be enough. Getting more capacity from the DNO can take months and cost real money.

We’ll flag where the existing capacity headroom looks tight for planned EV deployment, and where DNO engagement should start early.

Portfolio switching across multi-site operators

For regional and national operators with twenty, fifty or more sites, consolidating onto a single supplier with one renewal cycle is the practical move. Each site keeps its own MPAN and meter, but billing, contract management and renewal land in one place.

How a logistics electricity review works

1
Estate mapping

Every site, every MPAN, every renewal date pulled into one view.

2
Capacity and HH review

Half-hourly demand against agreed capacity. EV charging readiness flagged where relevant.

3
Portfolio quote

Live quotes from suppliers operating across all your regions. Fixed, flex and pass-through options compared.

4
Coordinated switch and ongoing management

Sites move to the new supplier in sequence aligned to end dates.
