Golf club gas contracts: clubhouse heating, kitchen, hot water
Golf club gas use is straightforward: clubhouse central heating from October through April, kitchen ranges through service, hot water for changing rooms and showers, and function-room heating for events. The volume depends on clubhouse size and how much function trade you do. A busy wedding-and-dinner venue uses considerably more than a quieter members-only clubhouse. We compare suppliers across the open UK market with that profile in mind.
The mechanics of switching gas are the same as for any commercial site. We cover them in our guide to switching business gas. But golf-specific questions matter: how to handle multiple gas meters across clubhouse, greenkeeper’s compound, and pump-house heating, how to time renewals around the playing calendar, and how to time the switch to avoid pressure during competition or function weeks.
Our wider business gas service covers the whole UK market. For golf clubs we also look at function-room consumption profiles, biomethane options for clubs with sustainability positioning, and how landlord-owned course gas (where the club rents the course) sits alongside club-owned clubhouse gas.
Function-room demand and the right contract size
If function-trade is a significant share of clubhouse activity, gas demand spikes during the wedding and corporate-event season. Typically May to September. Some suppliers price that pattern fairly, others assume a flatter profile and penalise the variability. We route to suppliers whose contracts handle event-driven spikes without mid-term penalty.
Multiple meters across the club site
Clubhouses, greenkeeper compounds, pump houses, and any function-only buildings (marquee bases, separate restaurants) sometimes each have their own gas meter. We pull them onto a single comparison so you can see whether consolidating to one supplier beats keeping them separate. For most clubs, consolidation saves money. But not always. We show the numbers either way.
Renewal timing around the playing year
A summer renewal. When wholesale gas is typically cheapest and your clubhouse is in low-demand mode. Gives you the best market position. An autumn renewal locks in winter pricing pressure. Where we can, we’ll time the changeover for summer; where the existing contract dictates autumn, we’ll model 12-, 24- and 36-month options so the management committee sees the trade-off clearly.
| What we compare | What it means for your club |
|---|---|
| Unit rate (p/kWh) | The biggest cost. Compounds across heating and kitchen hours. |
| Standing charge per meter | Daily fixed cost. Adds up across clubhouse, compound, pump house. |
| Function-event flex | Whether seasonal event spikes trigger any penalty. |
| Biomethane option | Renewable gas if it fits your sustainability position. |
| Contract length | 1–3 years; longer locks rate, shorter keeps flexibility. |
| Renewal timing | Summer renewals beat autumn ones on winter exposure. |
